MoMo from MTN Uganda has launched Travel By MoMo, a new digital travel booking platform developed in partnership with Next Travel and global travel technology provider Amadeus. The service allows customers to search, compare, and book flights directly through the MoMo platform, providing a more convenient and seamless travel booking experience.
The launch marks MoMo’s continued expansion beyond digital payments into a broader digital ecosystem aimed at simplifying everyday services for customers. Speaking during the launch, MoMo Uganda Managing Director, Phrase Lubega, said the company remains committed to developing solutions that address everyday challenges while creating new opportunities for more people. He noted that this customer-centric approach has guided MoMo’s transformation from a mobile payments platform into a comprehensive digital services provider.
MoMo Uganda Chief Product Officer, Jemima Kariuki-Njuguna, stated that Travel By MoMo was specifically designed to meet the needs of Ugandan travellers. According to her, the platform enables users to compare flight options across different airlines, view fares in Uganda Shillings, and make payments through the familiar and trusted MoMo platform, making travel booking simpler and more accessible.
The launch event brought together industry stakeholders, partners, media representatives, and customers to celebrate the collaboration and its potential to broaden access to digital travel services in Uganda. By combining Amadeus’ global travel technology, Next Travel’s expertise, and MoMo’s digital payment infrastructure, the platform provides customers with access to international flight options through a locally tailored booking experience.
The new service is expected to serve a wide range of travellers, including those travelling for business, education, family visits, trade, and leisure. Customers can now conveniently search and book flights through the MoMo App, further reinforcing MoMo’s position as a one-stop digital platform for financial and lifestyle services.
