FG Unveils C.L.I.C.K.D. Consumer Credit Scheme for Tech Devices

The Federal Government has introduced Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.), a consumer credit initiative designed to provide affordable financing for locally assembled laptops and other digital devices.

The programme, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, aims to equip Nigerians with the tools required to actively participate in the country’s expanding digital economy.

At the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the importance of access to credit in enhancing productivity and stimulating economic growth. He noted that sustainable development depends on a strong credit system that enables individuals and businesses to access the resources needed to improve their productivity.

Dr. Tijani emphasised that in today’s digital era, technology is essential for education, innovation, and wealth creation. He pointed out that many talented young Nigerians have the skills to succeed but are limited by their inability to afford computers and other digital tools.

Sharing a personal experience, the minister recounted how acquiring his first laptop as a university student opened up global opportunities for him and eventually led to the creation of one of Nigeria’s early technology hubs. He said the new initiative is intended to ensure that more young Nigerians are not held back by financial constraints.

He added that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s goal of building a one-trillion-dollar economy by expanding access to technology, increasing productivity, and supporting local manufacturing.

Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Mr. Uzoma Nwagba, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s workforce and digital future. He noted that although progress has been made in internet connectivity and digital skills development, limited access to devices remains a significant barrier for many young people.

Mr. Nwagba explained that the C.L.I.C.K.D. initiative is designed to address this challenge by offering affordable consumer credit, enabling beneficiaries to acquire laptops and other internet-enabled devices while building relevant digital skills.
