Nigerian-British Tech Entrepreneur Unveils Interactive Quiz Platform, Otiya

A Nigerian tech entrepreneur based in the United Kingdom has unveiled Otiya, a browser-based platform that combines interactive learning, live quizzes and social play.

Developed by technology company Helixus Ltd, Otiya entered public beta in August 2026 and is currently being tested by early users ahead of its full launch later this year.

The platform enables users to create quizzes, explore existing topics and host live knowledge competitions with up to 100 participants. Players can join using their mobile phones through a six-character code, without needing to download an app or create an account.

Otiya is designed for a wide range of users, including educators and trainers, workplaces, community organisations, families, friends and other social groups.

Olalekan Obisesan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Helixus Ltd, said the platform was developed to make knowledge sharing more interactive while keeping the experience enjoyable and accessible.

“We see quizzes as more than entertainment,” he said.

“They can help people test what they know, revisit ideas and learn together in a way that feels light, engaging and inclusive. We wanted Otiya to feel natural whether someone is exploring a topic independently, playing with friends or hosting a larger classroom, workplace or community session.”

For teachers and trainers, Otiya can transform existing learning materials into interactive knowledge checks. Learners can practise independently or participate in live sessions where accuracy and speed determine scores displayed on a real-time leaderboard.

Beyond formal learning environments, the platform can also be used for workplace team-building, conferences, parties, family gatherings, faith groups and community engagement activities.

Users can create quizzes using their own questions and images or select from ready-made topics covering African music, food, history, geography and popular culture, as well as broader global subjects.

Otiya also features a standalone prize-draw function for raffles and event giveaways. The results of prize draws are independent of quiz scores.

The platform takes its name from the Yoruba phrase “Ó ti yá”, which is commonly used to indicate that it is time to begin or get moving. According to Helixus, the expression reflects the platform’s goal of helping users move quickly from an idea, topic or learning objective to an interactive experience.

Obisesan has more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of technology, digital products, learning and public engagement. His work has focused on developing tools and programmes that connect people, ideas and communities at scale.

He is a graduate of the Northern Max Accelerator, a technology growth programme in West Yorkshire, and leads Helixus Ltd, a company focused on developing digital products for social good and supporting mission-driven organisations through technology and programme delivery.

Helixus is participating in the NatWest Accelerator and receives support through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s AD:VENTURE programme, a business growth initiative supporting ambitious start-ups across West Yorkshire.

The company said the beta period will provide an opportunity to understand how different audiences interact with Otiya before the platform is released more widely.

“Otiya is still in beta, so user feedback is central to this stage of development,” Obisesan said. “We want to understand what people enjoy, where they encounter challenges and what improvements would make the platform even more useful before its wider launch.”
