Mr Victor Nwachukwu, a Principal Correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has been selected for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK-MEET) Fellowship.
NAN reports that Nwachukwu and other successful candidates emerged from a competitive selection process that attracted more than 500 applications from journalists and content creators across Nigeria and Ghana.
The fellowship will be delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission.
According to the organisers, only 13 per cent of applicants were selected, with each eligible application independently assessed by two reviewers.
The fellowship aims to strengthen journalists’ capacity to report on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, climate technology and health innovation.
The in-country residential programme will take place in Abuja, bringing together selected fellows for engagements with researchers, practical reporting sessions and opportunities to develop story ideas.
Participants will receive training on verifying claims about emerging technologies, examining the data underpinning scientific findings and communicating complex research in clear and accessible language.
The organisers stated that fellows who demonstrate effective application of the training and develop rigorous story pitches would be considered for a knowledge exchange programme in London in late November.
The programme will provide selected fellows with opportunities to engage with researchers at Imperial College London.
Nwachukwu covers various areas, including science, innovation and technology, with a focus on their implications for national development.
The fellowship is expected to equip the selected journalists with the skills to make scientific knowledge accessible, scrutinise claims about emerging technologies and examine the impact of innovation on society.
