The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has graduated 95 participants from the second cohort of its Young Achievers Club Coding, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summer Class in Abuja, showcasing technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
The five-day programme, held from September 8 to 12, 2026, at NAFOWA Secondary School, Abuja, was organised in partnership with TechSpace Innovators, an educational technology organisation focused on expanding young people’s access to coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
The training was delivered under Project 1M Kids, an initiative by TechSpace Innovators aimed at introducing one million Nigerian children to technology education and equipping them with the skills to experiment, innovate and develop solutions to everyday problems.
The participants comprised 45 males and 50 females aged between 12 and 21, drawn from diverse educational backgrounds and with varying levels of technological experience.
Throughout the programme, participants received practical training in programming fundamentals, computational thinking, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, robotics, artificial intelligence and basic machine learning concepts.
The training adopted a hands-on, project-based approach, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to practical challenges. Using the micro:bit and CreateAI platforms, they explored data collection, data refinement, estimation and prediction before applying these concepts to develop technology-based solutions.
The programme concluded with the presentation of eight team projects addressing challenges in environmental protection, agriculture, accessibility, security and public infrastructure.
The projects included a Flood Protection System, Gesture Bot, Smart Irrigation System, Smart Solar Street Light, Automatic Stick for the Blind, Automatic Gate, Smart Dust Bin and a Gesture Recognition System for Persons with Disabilities.
At the closing ceremony, the President of NAFOWA, Mrs Ngozi Aneke, interacted with the participants and watched demonstrations of their projects. She encouraged the young innovators to put their newly acquired knowledge to positive use and urged them to “be good ambassadors of the Project.”
The Founder of TechSpace Innovators, Sesugh Gabriel Abenga, said Project 1M Kids was established to expand access to practical technology education for young Nigerians.
“Project 1M Kids is built around a simple idea: every child should have the opportunity to discover that they can use technology to create, solve problems and improve the world around them,” Abenga said.
The graduation forms part of NAFOWA’s efforts to equip young members of the Air Force family with practical skills in emerging technologies while fostering creativity, innovation, confidence and problem-solving abilities.
The organisers noted that the participants’ progression from learning basic technological concepts to developing functional prototypes demonstrated the value of hands-on technology education in preparing young Nigerians to become not just users of technology but also creators and problem-solvers.
