The Chief Executive Officer of Data Addicts, John David, popularly known as the Data Guru, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s technology sector by making data and digital innovation more accessible to individuals, businesses and government institutions.
David said the company believes technology should be used to address real-life challenges and improve decision-making, while data should be converted into useful information and actionable insights.
“Technology must serve people. Data should not just be collected; it should be transformed into knowledge, insights and solutions that can improve lives and institutions,” he said.
He noted that organisations generate huge volumes of data every day but often lack the capacity to analyse and effectively utilise the information.
“The future belongs to organisations that understand the power of data,” David said.
The Data Guru also identified the digital divide as a major challenge across Africa, particularly among young people. He said Data Addicts was focused on promoting technology education and improving access to digital tools.
“There is a huge amount of talent in Africa, particularly among young Nigerians, but many need access to the right knowledge, tools and opportunities,” he said.
On governance, David stressed that reliable data was essential for effective policymaking and service delivery.
“Good governance requires good information,” he said, urging governments to embrace responsible technological innovation, especially as artificial intelligence continues to expand.
“We must also be creators, innovators and owners of intellectual property,” he said.
David said Data Addicts’ vision extends beyond profit, explaining that the company’s broader objective is to promote a culture where technology and data are used to solve problems and empower people.
“The change is bigger than Data Addicts. It is about building a culture where technology solves problems and empowers people,” he said.
He added: “Technology is moving very fast. Our responsibility is to make sure people are not left behind.”
