Nigeria is set to deepen its economic and strategic partnership with India and other emerging economies as Vice President Kashim Shettima leads the country’s delegation to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima is expected to explore opportunities in trade, investment, agriculture, technology, manufacturing and industrial development.
Nigeria, which became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, is particularly looking to leverage India’s experience in technology, artificial intelligence and the digital economy to create more opportunities for its growing youth population.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, said India’s experience in engaging young people through technology offers valuable lessons for Nigeria, particularly in agriculture, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and women’s participation in technology.
“We are leveraging on India’s greatest strength, which is in the engagement of its youth population,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu said.
The Nigerian delegation comprises key ministers responsible for foreign affairs, industry, trade and investment, communications, innovation and digital economy, and environment.
The government said the engagement is aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation while attracting investment, technology and expertise to support Nigeria’s economic development.
