The Federal Government of Nigeria appointed Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) to protect oil assets and support peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed TSSNL, led by High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, to protect Nigeria’s oil assets in the Niger Delta region. The appointment was intended to enable the company, through its security operations, to support the national economy in deriving greater benefits from its oil resources.
TSSNL works in collaboration with other security agencies and outfits to achieve its objectives of protecting oil assets and promoting peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
Tantita’s operations have focused on securing oil pipelines, supporting the uninterrupted flow of petroleum resources and helping Nigeria move from a period of constant loss management towards greater stability, planning, growth and development.
The company’s operations have also transformed aspects of the oil and gas security landscape, enabling Nigeria to expand its oil production quota and significantly reduce rampant oil theft.
Its record in mitigating risks associated with oil pipelines has positioned it as a partner in efforts to preserve Nigeria’s economic backbone.

Technology and Security Operations
In the development of any society, certain assets contribute significantly to economic growth and the advancement of its people. These assets generate economic or monetary benefits and may include operating assets, non-operating assets and leased assets, among others.
The impact of TSSNL’s operations was highlighted in a recent survey, in which the majority of respondents attributed the reduction in security incidents in the Niger Delta region to the pipeline surveillance operations carried out by the company.
Tantita recently contracted a high-tech security company, Textron Systems, to deliver three uncrewed aircraft to strengthen its capacity to conduct surveillance operations on Nigeria’s oil installations.
Under the contract agreement, signed on December 29, 2025, Textron Systems of the United States is to deliver three Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) to the surveillance company.
The systems will be delivered in a fully ITAR-Free configuration designed to make export easier for international customers. The aircraft are expected to significantly strengthen security operations aimed at protecting Nigeria’s vital oil and gas infrastructure.
The sale also includes options for training and additional aircraft to support planned expansion of the company’s capabilities, building on a previous Foreign Military Sale contract to the country.
The Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 VTOL UAS features a runway-independent configuration powered by Hybrid Quadrotor technology, allowing it to take off and land vertically.
Its established performance and reliability make it an adaptable solution for security operations across Nigeria’s high-risk sectors.
“The Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 VTOL UAS is a mature, highly reliable, and industry-proven autonomous solution that will provide Tantita Security Services with transformational capability to execute their security operations,” said David Phillips, Senior Vice President, Air, Land and Sea Systems.
“The Aerosonde system’s demonstrated performance and benchmark-setting reliability will enable the Tantita team to expand its capabilities to protect the oil and gas infrastructure essential to Nigerian security and prosperity.”
The award builds on the support that the Aerosonde UAS family of systems has provided to international customers over several years.
The Aerosonde UAS offers multi-mission capabilities and is part of a family of systems that has accumulated more than 700,000 flight hours in some of the world’s most challenging environments.
The system has been deployed for operations across the world and currently operates on more than 10 U.S. Navy ships. It supports multiple payload configurations and is available in both VTOL and fixed-wing options.
Advanced Surveillance and System Integration
Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited says it integrates advanced technology into all aspects of its security operations, providing real-time monitoring, rapid threat detection and seamless communication.
Its technology and system integration solutions are designed to strengthen security infrastructure, streamline operations and prevent incidents before they occur. The company says it delivers end-to-end solutions aimed at ensuring that clients’ facilities remain secure while improving efficiency and response times.
To improve operational efficiency, Tantita deploys surveillance technology to protect infrastructure from vandalism, theft and unauthorised access.
The company offers a range of surveillance systems designed to meet the specific needs of its clients. These include high-resolution cameras with night vision and thermal imaging capabilities for round-the-clock monitoring.

The company also said it installs turnstile gates and automated barriers to control entry points in high-security facilities and minimise unauthorised movement.
“Early detection of potential threats is crucial for preventing damage and ensuring timely responses. Our integrated alarm systems are designed to detect and notify security teams of intrusions instantly. Our perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) detect breaches along fences or walls, issuing immediate alerts,” it said.
The company added that glass-break and door sensors installed on doors and windows can send alerts when forced entry is detected, helping to prevent unauthorised access.
“Our systems integrate with mobile devices to notify security personnel in real time, ensuring swift response to incidents. Seamless communication between security teams ensures coordinated responses to emergencies and real-time decision-making,” it stated.
Continuing, the company said its advanced radio systems ensure uninterrupted communication across facilities, including in remote locations.
It also designs and equips control rooms with video walls and communication consoles to provide centralised oversight for large-scale operations.
“Emergency Notification Systems enable quick dissemination of alerts to relevant stakeholders during emergencies, minimizing confusion and delays,” it stated.
Support From Stakeholders
The Chairman of the House Committee on Host Communities, Dekor Dumnamene Robinson, said the contributions of Tantita and its leadership to national security deserve appreciation.
In one of the strongest endorsements of the company’s operations, lawmakers under the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives on Host Communities and Public Petitions, alongside other stakeholders, also commended Tantita for what they described as effective and patriotic service in protecting Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure.
They specifically cited the recovery of crude oil production, reduction in pipeline vandalism and restoration of relative peace in oil-producing communities as major achievements recorded under the leadership of High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
“Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, in partnership with NNPCL, has rendered demonstrably effective service in the protection of crude oil pipelines and the recovery of national crude oil production,” they stated.
The Joint Committee subsequently passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the company and called on the Federal Government and NNPCL to approve a long-term renewal of the surveillance contract to consolidate the gains already achieved in the fight against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering.
“Tompolo and his team have served this country at great personal risk. They have kept the economic lifeline of the nation running and restored peace to communities that had not experienced peace in decades,” he said.
The National Chairman of Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), His Highness Benjamin Style Tamaranebi JP, also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in Tantita as a critical part of the security apparatus responsible for protecting oil assets in the Niger Delta.
“Let us be clear: Destroying our oil assets is economic suicide. It’s a direct attack on the very lifeline of our communities. Our host communities have endured environmental degradation, economic hardship, and neglect for decades. The passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) was a turning point, ensuring that our communities finally receive direct benefits from the resources extracted from our land,” he said.
He said Tantita Security Services and other security outfits were crucial to safeguarding Nigeria’s oil assets, adding that their presence had helped curb oil theft, improve production levels and stabilise the national economy.
“HOSTCOM believes that the unique understanding of the Niger Delta terrain by Tantita and its personnel is vital for effective onslaught against oil theft, and it’s imperative that our security agencies and other critical stakeholders in our region recognise the selfless contributions of Tantita and its main promoter, our own indefatigable Niger Delta crusader for better life for our people and champion of equitable and fair distribution of the nation’s resources, High Chief, Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and support them,” he said.
A Lagos-based social analyst, Jamiu Idris, said that to appreciate the current stability in the Niger Delta, it was important to recall the near-collapse that characterised Nigeria’s oil industry a few years ago.
“Before the implementation of the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) framework in late 2022, the nation faced an existential threat. Oil production had cratered to a historic low of 1.015 million barrels per day (bpd) in September 2022—a staggering decline that jeopardised the federal budget, weakened the naira, and pushed the economy toward the brink of insolvency,” he stated.
