What Nigeria Can Learn from the World’s Agricultural Superpowers

Advances in agricultural technology have transformed countries with limited natural resources into global leaders in food production. The Netherlands uses artificial intelligence, sensors, robotics and precision agriculture to maximise productivity despite its small landmass, while Israel has overcome harsh desert conditions through innovations such as drip irrigation, desalination, water recycling and climate-controlled farming.

The article contrasts these successes with Nigeria, a country endowed with vast arable land, favourable climate and a large agricultural workforce, yet still grappling with food inflation, low productivity, post-harvest losses and food insecurity. It argues that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a lack of land or natural resources but its approach to agriculture.
