NAFOWA Trains 95 Young Innovators in Technology in Abuja

The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has graduated 95 participants from the second cohort of its Young Achievers Club Coding, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summer Class, where participants showcased technology-driven solutions to real-world problems.

The five-day programme, which took place from September 8 to 12, 2026, at NAFOWA Secondary School, Abuja, was organised in partnership with TechSpace Innovators, an educational technology organisation committed to expanding young people’s access to coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

The training was delivered under Project 1M Kids, an initiative by TechSpace Innovators designed to introduce one million Nigerian children to technology education and provide opportunities for them to learn, experiment and develop solutions to everyday challenges.

The programme attracted 95 participants, comprising 45 males and 50 females aged between 12 and 21, from diverse educational backgrounds and with varying levels of technological experience.

During the training, participants learned programming fundamentals, computational thinking, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, robotics, and the basic principles of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The programme adopted a practical, project-based learning approach, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to real-world challenges.

Using the micro:bit and CreateAI platforms, participants explored data collection, data refinement, estimation and prediction before applying these skills to develop technology-based solutions.

The training concluded with the presentation of eight team projects designed to address challenges in environmental protection, agriculture, accessibility, security and public infrastructure.

The projects included a Flood Protection System, Gesture Bot, Smart Irrigation System, Smart Solar Street Light, Automatic Stick for the Blind, Automatic Gate, Smart Dust Bin and a Gesture Recognition System for Persons with Disabilities.

At the closing ceremony, NAFOWA President, Mrs Ngozi Aneke, interacted with the participants and observed presentations of their projects.

The Founder of TechSpace Innovators, Sesugh Gabriel Abenga, said Project 1M Kids was established to expand access to practical technology education for young Nigerians.

“Project 1M Kids is built around a simple idea: every child should have the opportunity to discover that they can use technology to create, solve problems and improve the world around them,” Abenga said.

The graduation forms part of NAFOWA’s efforts to equip young members of the Air Force family with practical skills in emerging technologies while encouraging creativity, innovation, confidence and problem-solving abilities.

According to the organisers, the participants’ progression from learning basic concepts to developing functional prototypes demonstrated the potential of hands-on technology education to inspire young Nigerians to become not just users of technology, but also creators and problem-solvers.
